Flight cancelled, rescheduled. Booked new ticket on American after Spirit rep at airport said we can get a cash refund due to weather, and we can do so online.
But online cancellation only lets re-book, need money back! Have been on hold for over 45 minutes with Spirit!

That makes no sense. It is all electronic and there should not be a delay!? I understand the financial loss the airlines are suffering, but that's not an excuse to pass it on to their customers!

They are swamped right now due to the hurricane. Give them a little bit of a break. You are also dealing with a discount airline that is in the business of volume and not always customer service - that’s one of the drawbacks of highly discounted carriers. They don’t offer as good customer service in some cases as legacy Iines.

Did give them a break, when they were no help in rescheduling or booking with a different airline! Cheap airline, cheap customer service!
Received different answers from 3 different Spirit reps. Ended up going to the airport for face to face service to no avail! American was helpful and friendly, Spirit was not, staff seemed clueless! You get what you pay for! No more cheap frill ticketing with Spirit. They are CHEAP, like advertised not inexpensive!

The airlines have 1000’s of passengers and flights disrupted due to these weather issues. Each refund is handled individually these things take time. You will need to check the website for Spirit as some airlines are actually requiring passengers to submit a claim for a refund.

They cannot put you on another flight with another airline because they don’t have a reciprocal agreement with another airline for their flights. Other airlines will not sell a ticket for the prices you are paying for Spirit.

By DOT law, they have to do one of two things when a flight is canceled- put you on the next flight with available seats (which could be days away) or give you a refund. All they owe you is a refund if you can’t accept the flight they offer you.

Sorry you learned this hard lesson about booking these discount airlines. Did they refund the flight?

I can't think of any merchant that offers refunds to credit cards where the refund is complete within 24 hours. Most will tell you that it takes anywhere from 3-10 business days to process refunds. Even worse, some will say 1-2 billing cycles.
