Oh, I agree.
Overbooking UMs: not a good idea
Boarding more UMs than you can take: REALLY not a good idea

They shouldn't have taken the booking in the first place, and they CERTAINLY should have caught the problem before boarding.

This is an amazing story of incompetence on Virgin's part. However, I am questioning the difference between "he cried for hours" and "Virgin staff took very good care of him". Hmmm ... who to believe?
