Why we’re breaking a few rules for you today

As you can probably tell, this isn’t your average fundraiser.

I began by telling people not to give to this site, but instead to consider several other worthy causes.

I also broke a grammar rule, for those of you who clicked on that last post. I know, it’s “whom” do you support, no “who.” I went with the colloquial, but grammatically incorrect phrasing.

The red lights of the grammar police are in my rearview mirror. Gotta go!

These aren’t the best of times to be in journalism. Budgets are being slashed. Writers are being let go. Makes me feel like a dinosaur on the verge of extinction.

But there are exceptions to every rule, and thanks to you, this site has survived.

Alright, maybe I’m not as clever as Ira Glass with my fundraisers, or as convincing as the talking heads on PBS. But the fact remains that this site exists because of you, the traveler.

The fact also remains that there’s really nothing like this site out there. There are lots of terrific news organizations that rely on advertising, and many excellent travel blogs that are run by hobbyists. But I don’t know of another site that advocates for travelers every day.
