I booked a trip to Alaska this July through Vacations to Go, including airfare and insurance. The tour company, Gate !, is only offering credit towards a future trip. My husband and I are senior citizens and we don't know what our situation will be in a year. The trip cost a lot of money, and we want a refund. Can we insist on a refund?

You can try, but Gate 1 probably does not have the funds to offer a refund. This is a universal problem with tour/travel operators now.

You can look at other Gate 1 issues in these forums.

Did you cancel the trip or did Gate 1? If you did, then you are most likely not due a refund based on the terms of your agreement.

If Gate 1 cancelled, then you may have an opportunity to receive a refund but as both @weihlac and @Neil Maley stated, they may not have the funds or the terms of the contract allow them to offer a credit for future tours.

What are the terms and conditions in your Gate 1 contract for cancellations on their part?
". Gate 1 Travel reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any escorted tour or individual booking for any reason including insufficient demand or events beyond our control. Cancellation will be advised at least 45 days prior to the tour's departure, and all money will be refunded "

I want to contact them, but I cannot find an email for them. There is a phone number, but, although I will try, I may not get through.

An update on my issue with Gate 1--I went through the Better Business Bureau, filed a complaint, and received a response. On May 6, Gate 1 said they would refund my money , but that I might have to wait for a refund from the airline. I accepted their offer that day, saying I could wait for the airline refund, but that I wanted the land tour refund immediately. On May 11, the airline refund had posted to my credit card, but I have not yet been refunded for the tour. How long should I allow for them to refund me before I have to take this further?

I think the 30 days is reasonable. After all, they have basically told everyone whose trips were cancelled that they need to rebook, so they are keeping most of the money.I had several cruises cancelled. They are refunding everyone's money, and they gave a time frame of 30-45 days. I got my money back in no more than 30 days.I'm just a bit nervous about this company because they got horrible reviews on BBB, but I will give them the 30 days.
