In a nutshell, a lady booked through Expedia for a resort in OR. The resort overbooked and canceled her reservation. Expedia initially tried to keep her money and only after some time did they rebook her at a Holiday Inn (plus some vouchers). They claimed they didn't need to give her a refund due to their ToS.

When will people learn NOT to use these "services"? Their rates generally aren't any better and they just screw everything up when something goes sideways. It's incredible that they think their ToS can allow them to keep the money without the service being provided.

I agree. Yet they have managed to stay in business for years and people continue to use them. These days most hotels have a "lowest price guarantee" anyway.

Oh... If this was for an Oregon stay in this August, then she is not alone. There is a very unique total solar eclipse over Oregon on 21st August. Many hotels recognized this too late to increase prices, so they started to cancel existing reservations in the name of overbooking - then selling the same rooms for much higher prices. It was a piece of very sad news all over on stargazer forums.

To answer your original question, kahss, people will NEVER learn not to use these online booking agencies. Their advertising budgets are astronomical and the unwary public believes it all. It's sad but true.
