I received a credit for a trip on United this March. I booked it 3/2/20 and cancelled 3/12/20 through the app Hopper. I received a notice from Hopper that I would receive a credit for an travel between now and 3/2/21. This does not help as I need a flight that would be the last week in March due to school schedules. Please can I have a refund and will purchase the ticket next year.

If you cancel a nonrefundable flight, you aren’t due a refund, only a credit. Airlines are only required to refund if they cancel the flight. And in truth, they don’t have to refund you at all when you buy a nonrefundable ticket.

Wish I had better news but that’s the way airline tickets work.

Write to customer service of United and ask for an exception to the fare rules. Instead of asking for a refund, ask to have your credit extended so that you can use the ticket.

Check your credit on the United web site. They extended all their credits out until 2022, so it should work for your 2021 flight

Hopper monitors flight prices and tells you to wait if prices are going down or to buy immediately.
