How I reached a live person with Expedia to refund cancelled flight

I had a DL flight booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards online portal -- run by Expedia -- using points. Flight was for June. Over the weekend, flight was cancelled. I knew that I had to reach Expedia to get a refund and my points returned. The online portal doesn't support this type of request. The main phone number provided states that they are handling only flights in the next week. My original email confirmation for flight booking included a phone number to use when calling internationally. I called that #, followed the prompts for existing reservations, and reached an Expedia agent working from home after being on hold only 3 minutes. It took about 40 minutes of time with the rep for her to confirm the flight was cancelled; confirm the airline was offering immediate refunds; process the refund; and return the points to my account.

I don't know if this approach works for domestic flights, but this backdoor may be useful for other people with international flights booked through Expedia.
