    Passport Question

    That's a very good idea!

    Passport Question

Yes, definitely the meals and cleaning too. Eating out 3 meals a day is expensive but organizing cooking and cleaning between 30 people isn't an easy task.

    Passport Question

Thanks jsn! Strangely I was able to get a passport for myself with the stamped printout of my Social Security number, but was denied for the Real ID with the same document. Go figure! We're still in the very early stages of planning the extended family trip, so we haven't decided on a cruise or...

    Passport Question

Good point. We got our Social Security numbers for the first time in the mid 80s, along with our brother, so our numbers are all sequential. I was about 12 or 13. I remember my dad taking us to the SSA office to apply, because he needed us to have Social Security numbers to file his tax...

    Passport Question

They are strict! I was unable to get one myself last year, because I had a certified printout of my Social Security number from a local SSA office, vs the actual card. The office I had gone to when I lost my card would not reissue cards, only provide the stamped printout.

    Passport Question

I'm surprised too, but she's in her 40s and hasn't had any issues with the SSA or IRS so far with the name discrepancy.

Amtrak scheduling (Train has been late for six months straight)

I read that the trip between Philly and D.C. takes 90 minutes-two hours. Is that true? If so, can I just say that I am envious?? I work in downtown Cleveland and live in a suburb roughly 18 miles away. My daily public transit commute takes me 90 minutes. It's a 25-35 minute drive, depending on...

    Passport Question

Thanks weilac. She doesn't mind if the passport has the misspelled name. She's just concerned that she'll denied one because of the discrepancy between her birth and SS card.

    Passport Question

A Google search took me to our county's probate court website. It says minor name misspellings can be corrected by executing an affidavit of correction and a court appearance. I'm surprised the SSA issued her card with the correct spelling rather than the misspelling on the birth certificate...

    Passport Question

Thanks everyone for the replies. What a hassle. I wish our mother had just taken care of the correction when my sister was an infant. We live in Ohio by the way. Her marriage certificate has the same spelling as her birth certificate.

    Passport Question

Hello all. My extended family is considering planning a group vacation to either a Caribbean resort or a cruise in the next year or so, which of course would entail everyone needing passports. My youngest (adult, married) sister has never had a passport. Her first name is misspelled by one...

    Frustrated and Robbed

Yep, my family of 4 went on a Carnival cruise in 2016. Our airfare from Ohio to Florida cost MORE than the cruise! And that was even with flying Spirit. Plus the cost of a hotel room in Florida prior to the cruise.

Qantas won't help us after delaying our baggage 6 of our 8 vacation days to Sydney.

My husband is an insulin dependent diabetic, and this is what he uses as well when we fly. We've never had issues with TSA over the needles. Although granted, we've never flown internationally.

12+ hour delay at airport due to mechanical failure

Same here. I also get 15 vacation days a year, and have to save some for other uses. I normally only take one 3-4 night trip a year as well, due to a very limited travel budget. And having to pay to board my pets when I travel also.

12+ hour delay at airport due to mechanical failure

That's a great idea, IF someone is retired or otherwise unemployed, has generous vacation time at work. And doesn't have pets or children to plan trips around. Many people are fortunate if they even get two weeks of paid vacation a year at work.

    Real ID

I just saw that someone above stated that Ohio doesn't allow the cards to be mailed. That's disappointing.

    Real ID

Perfect! I'm going to do that today!

    Real ID

I'm in Ohio too, and couldn't get the Real ID because I had a certified printout of my SSN from a SSA office, rather than the actual card. The SSA office I went to a few years ago, when I lost my card, would only give printouts. I was told to get another card and come back. I didn't want to have...

    Cruise Advice

True cautionary tale: My former supervisor at my job was on a cruise with her husband when Hurricane Harvey hit. Their ship couldn't dock, so they ended up stranded on the ship for an extra week. I don't know if they had travel insurance to cover any extra costs they incurred. Hopefully they...

    Norwegian's Customer Service is Horrible!

Fair enough. You make some good points. I do agree that doing little or no research before spending thousands of dollars is baffling.
