What you need to know about JetBlue Airways

Not so long ago, JetBlue Airways set the standard for customer service. But lately, the carrier has lost its standing amid complaints about delays, high fees, and inflexible policies. JetBlue has quite a case file, most recently with a scammy phone number. There are also issues with flight cancellations and ticketing problems.

JetBlue Airways customer service policies

Privacy policy

JetBlue’s privacy policy describes the types of personal information the airline collects through its websites and services, including contact data, travel reservations, location data, and biometric data in certain contexts. JetBlue states it does not sell personal information to third parties and uses it only for the purposes described in the policy. The policy covers tracking technologies, third-party partners, and data retention practices, and it explains how customers may submit requests related to their personal data.

Refund and cancellation policy

JetBlue’s flight terms and conditions govern refunds and cancellations. Generally, non-Blue-Basic fares can be changed or canceled without a fee, with the fare difference applied. Blue Basic fares are subject to restrictions: those booked before April 3, 2025, are non-changeable; those booked on or after that date may be exchanged with applicable fees. Refunds are issued to the original form of payment for eligible fares. Customers may also cancel and retain the value in a JetBlue Travel Bank credit for future use.

Terms and conditions

JetBlue’s website terms and conditions govern use of jetblue.com and JetBlue’s other digital properties. They incorporate the privacy policy and JetBlue’s contract of carriage for air travel, address user-generated content, and include limitations on liability. JetBlue reserves the right to modify the terms at any time. Users assume risk for their own use of the site.

Frequently asked questions about JetBlue Airways

What are my rights if JetBlue cancels my flight?

Under U.S. Department of Transportation rules, you are entitled to a full cash refund to your original payment method if JetBlue cancels your flight or makes a significant schedule change and you choose not to travel. JetBlue may offer a rebooking or a Travel Bank credit, but you can request a cash refund instead. If JetBlue is unable to rebook you promptly, document your expenses — hotel, meals, transportation — and submit them via dearjetblue@jetblue.com. Note that JetBlue’s policy distinguishes between “controllable” and “uncontrollable” disruptions, and reimbursement for ancillary expenses generally applies only to controllable delays.

How do I confirm I'm contacting the real JetBlue and not a scammer?

Use only the official JetBlue website (jetblue.com) and the verified customer service number (800) 538-2583 to contact the airline. Do not call numbers that appear in paid search ads or on third-party sites. On social media, look for JetBlue’s verified account at @JetBlue on X; be wary of accounts with similar names, low follower counts, or no verification badge. JetBlue has confirmed that fraudulent websites and phone numbers impersonating the airline are widespread — when in doubt, navigate directly to jetblue.com and find contact details there.

Will JetBlue pay for my hotel if my flight is canceled?

JetBlue’s policy is to cover hotel, meal, and ground transportation expenses only when a cancellation or significant delay is within the airline’s control (for example, a mechanical issue or crew shortage), not for weather or air traffic control delays. Customers must document and submit expenses after the fact. JetBlue has received recurring complaints about denying these reimbursements even for controllable disruptions.

What changed about Blue Basic fares in April 2025?

JetBlue updated its Blue Basic fare rules effective April 3, 2025. Blue Basic tickets booked on or after that date may be exchanged, with applicable change fees and any fare difference. Tickets booked before April 3, 2025, remain non-exchangeable under the prior policy. In either case, Blue Basic fares cannot be upgraded and do not earn full TrueBlue points. If you are unsure which rules apply to your ticket, check your booking confirmation date and review the fare rules at jetblue.com/legal/flights-terms.

How do I escalate a complaint at JetBlue if I'm not getting a resolution?

If front-line customer service has not resolved your issue, you have several escalation options. You can email dearjetblue@jetblue.com with a detailed account of your case. If that fails, file a complaint with the DOT’s Aviation Consumer Protection Division at transportation.gov. You may also contact Elliott Advocacy for free consumer assistance. As a last resort, consider disputing the charge with your credit card company if the issue involves a payment. Call JetBlue at (800) 538-2583 and ask for a supervisor or the escalations team.

How do I request a refund instead of a Travel Bank credit?

If JetBlue canceled your flight or made a significant change to your itinerary, you are entitled to a cash refund under DOT rules — you do not have to accept a Travel Bank credit. To request a refund, visit jetblue.com/help/refunds or call (800) 538-2583. If you voluntarily changed or canceled your ticket, Travel Bank credit (rather than a cash refund) is typically the default for eligible fares. Keep documentation of any cancellation notices JetBlue sends you.
