For that reason, I have adopted the following policy:

I’ll only write only about those destinations, products or services with which I have firsthand knowledge. Alternatively, I’ll use reliable sources of information and will state that clearly in the text.

Under no circumstances will I accept payment or courtesies for producing favorable materials about destinations, products or services.

Because many media outlets don’t provide the sometimes substantial funds required to report first-hand on all facets of destinations, product or services, I sometimes accept a special rate for transportation, accommodations or products for evaluation.

When I accept a special rate, it is essential to recognize my complete independence in reporting on the positive as well as the negative results of such trips or products, or to decide that the material justifies no report of any kind.
